What are the best colors for a metal roof? A new standing seam metal roof is a great upgrade for your house that comes with lots of benefits, but it can also drastically alter the look and feel of your beloved home.

And there are more choices than ever before! We use rolls of Kynar-coated Galvalume to create roofing panels right on-site, and they come in dozens of colors to suit every home style and design aesthetic:

Galvalume is the ideal material for standing seam roofs. Made from a 55% to 45% ratio of aluminum to zinc alloy with a small amount of silicon, the metal is durable and naturally resistant to corrosion — and now comes in a wide array of Kynar resin polymer coatings.

Here we’ve assembled some great examples of standing seam roof colors, in a variety of shades and for a wide range of house styles. We hope it brings you HGTV-worthy design inspiration!

White Metal Roofing

A white metal standing seam roof makes a stunning statement. These interlocking roof panels are Energy-STAR rated, meaning that in addition to looking gorgeous, they’ll also reflect the sun’s heat and lower your energy bills.

White metal roofs are usually paired with white or light-colored houses, as you can see in the example above. If you want to achieve this look but you don’t have a white house, not to worry! This colonial-style home was originally red, so the homeowners painted their brick white and added white cladding. The natural wood shutters and wrought iron accents help maintain a traditional, earthy feel even with the modern lines of the white standing seam roof.

Bright Red Metal Roof Panels

If you want the feel of a Spanish villa in the Mediterranean, look no further. Mission-style homes are popular in Texas and the Southwest, but you don’t have to commit to heavy, breakable clay tiles to get the look.

You can put a red standing seam roof on any home that would look good with Spanish tile. The architectural style doesn’t really matter — a red roof will suit ranch, colonial, craftsman homes and more — so long as the house’s exterior walls are a uniform light neutral color.

This sprawling home, a combination of ranch and mission styles, hugs the landscape and feels anchored to the ground. The terracotta roof color evokes rich Texas clay and creates a pleasing contrast with its surrounding greenery.

Bright Green Metal Standing Seam Roofs

Like red roofing, green metal roofs pack a big design punch. While you can use green standing seam panels on a variety of house styles, they work best on a traditional log cabin style home with warm natural wood (above), or a New England style of home with white painted cladding (below).

A green standing seam roof echoes the colors of trees in nature, connecting your home to its environment. And standing seam roof panels are available in a variety of green colors, from bright grass green to a more muted and mature hunter green.

Light Neutral Colors For Your Metal Roof

Light neutral colors are by far the most popular choices for the standing seam roofs that we install. A light neutral that leans towards brown (as in the picture above) or towards gray (below) will complement almost any home. Even better, these subtle colors don’t draw attention to themselves, so you can have a sophisticated standing seam metal roof system but still blend in with the neighbors.

A light brown metal roof will highlight a home’s warm-toned wooden accents, while a cool-toned light gray metal roof picks up on gray stonework and soft blue cladding. Both choices have an uncanny ability to complement a home’s exterior at all times of day and in all weathers.

Copper And Bronze Metal Roof Colors

True copper roofing, while expensive, is a durable and long-lasting roofing material that has been used for centuries. When first installed, it is as bright and shiny as a new penny, and gradually weathers into the familiar sage green you recognize from the Statue of Liberty.

For a more affordable solution that retains its original coloring, try Galvalume roofing panels treated with Kynar colors that mimic bright copper and aged bronze.

This cozy bungalow (above) has a copper-colored standing seam metal roof that complements its clean and simple architectural lines. Unlike the thatch that traditionally protected Tudor-style cottages, which would have to be replaced yearly, a metal roof is lightweight and fire-resistant, and will last for decades.

Galvalume can also be painted to look like aged rubbed bronze, as in this lakeside cabin above. Deep, rich browns combine with natural stone and green accents to create a natural retreat that’s protected against any storms and hail.

What our Clients are Saying

  • Rusty, Plano

All I can say is – dealing with Aaron Lenhart and Designer Roofing of Texas was excellent. Aaron and his people were professional, knowledgeable and nice to work with every step of the way.

I felt their price was fair and they delivered exactly as promised. What more can you ask for in the real world? They started on time, ended on time and the house looks great with the new style of tile. I have referred a few friends to them since then and so far, everyone has been pleased!

  • Rob Paul

The roof is fantastic and I really appreciate Designer Roofing’s hard work and professionalism throughout the process. It was absolutely the right decision for my project. Feel free to hand out my information as a reference for your company should anyone ask, I am happy to help.

  • Kumar, Frisco

I was impressed throughout with Designer Roofing’s professionalism, experience and knowledge of the business. As my agent, you worked with my insurance company to get their approval, and I was delighted to see that you ordered specialized pictures of the house to make it easier for the insurance company to assess the damage and approve.

Your team was experienced and they worked with a good work ethic to get the job done very quickly. This was key since you did not use novices to install the specialized Gerard stone coated steel roof. Your team was well trained: they covered the pool and daily used a magnet to clear the home premises of any metallic materials.

You had no hesitation in ensuring my complete satisfaction, and sent in the experts to fix a couple of minor things that I wanted changed. Please accept my gratitude and congratulations for a job well done and a super service!! I shall be happy to recommend you and your company to anyone without hesitation.

We just wanted to drop you note and tell you how much we enjoy the new roof. The style we chose with your help looks great. More importantly, the service of you and your team was outstanding. Your crew was attentive to the details and cleaned up well each and every day. And, to top it off, you started and finished when you said you would. Job well done!

  • composite roofing by designer roofing

    Bing and Rachel, Plano

We were battered by the windstorm of April 2008, which tore down our entire fence, a beautiful 10-year old tree, and a huge section of our composition roof.

Designer Roofing came to our rescue and immediately patched the roof to prevent further weather damage. Despite a heavy workload brought on by the storm, Designer Roofing proceeded to replace our entire roof as soon as was possible. They replaced all fixtures and chimney flashings to perfectly match our new roof color, too.

Designer Roofing was very professional throughout the job, helping us understand the re-roofing process, eagerly answering our every question, and giving us the greatest value for our insurance coverage and out-of-pocket costs. If we ever need a new roof again, Designer Roofing will be #1 on our list, and we would gladly recommend them to friends and family alike!
